Can i Use an air intake with my mass air flow sensor?

Hi, I have a 99 Grand Prix GT. I just picked this car up and i noticed that it has a mass air flow sensor. How can I use an air intake ( Spectre or K&N style) when i have to worry about messing with the air flow sensor. I have seen adapters to do this on ebay etc, but when i put my car in they say they are not compatible. It is a 3.8 v6 if that helps at all. Thanks
